Carruthers and Taylor Named 2020 Freedom Scholars

Evanston, ILGraduate student Charlene Carruthers and alum Dr. Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor were named 2020 Freedom Scholars last month by the Marguerite Casey Foundation in partnership with the Group Health Foundation.

Carruthers is a first-year Ph.D. student in African American Studies whose research interests include Black Feminist Political Economies, Political Theory, 20th Century African American History and Black Cultural Studies. 

Taylor earned her Ph.D. in African American Studies at Northwestern in 2013. She is currently an Assistant Professor at Princeton University.
